Purpose: To provide an opportunity to reflect on and identify barriers to preventative care and screenings in the clinical practicum environment.
1. Use the US Preventative Services Task Force to describe TWO preventative care screenings recommended for the patient population that are seen in primary care medicine (18 years and up).
• Hypertension in Adults: Screening
• Colorectal Cancer: Screening
2. Screening opportunities are often missed in vulnerable populations and those with limited access to care. Describe changes you recommend in your practice setting (primary care office in Los Angeles) and community to increase the frequency of preventative screenings within vulnerable populations.
*References: Please avoid nursing journals. Must use either U.S. based peer reviewed journals geared for clinicians (MD/DO/NP/PA) published in the past five years OR the latest edition of a Clinical Practice Guideline. All scholarly, peer-reviewed research articles must be current – within a 5-year time frame.
